Vulcan Bomber part 3...

For a long time I've wanted to paint the Vulcan and one day was greatly inspired when the Vulcan and the two remaining flying Lancaster bombers flew in formation over Lincoln to mark a new Bomber Command Memorial. All the aircraft were made by British manufacturer Avro and were designed by their Chief Designer Roy Chadwick. It's remarkable that only thirty years separates the two aircraft and shows how swiftly the industry progressed.

Steve, also a vert gifted oil portrait painter, was attendant at the Vulcan's farewell flight near Bristol and was able to capture several great photos, one of which I used as a reference for the Vulcan in my painting. The sky backdrop was also inspird by a photo taken by Steve who captured a superb and dramatic skyscape. Michael Cain supplied the superb photo for the Lancaster bomber and I am grateful to both for their talent and permission to use their work as references.
